For Lloyds Bank plc, involvement in school governing means staff can add tangible value to school leadership. Ian Buss, Head of Education at Lloyds, is clear that staff, and the wider business, benefit too. Ian explains: “Volunteering as a school governor allows our staff to gain from highly valuable exposure to a strategic environment outside their day job. And the bank gains a more rounded, skilled employee as a result.”
Lloyds worked with SGOSS, the Government-funded charity that works with companies to match volunteers with schools that need governors. SGOSS is able to post governor vacancies directly onto Lloyds’ internal volunteer portal. This close involvement makes it very simple for staff to volunteer and eases the administration involved for Lloyds in running such a programme.
