  • Inspiring Governance – A free match-making service that connects volunteers interested in becoming governors/trustees with schools and colleges that are recruiting for these positions. It is part of the highly successful Inspiring the Future (ITF) online volunteer/school & college matchmaking service which has over 10,000 teachers and 30,000 volunteers registered across the country. and 
  • NCOGS – The National Co-ordinators of Governor Services is a committee representing local authority providers of services to school governors.

On the 12th January 2017 the Department for Education published The Competency Framework for Governors together with a revised version of  Governance Handbook. The Framework and Handbook for governors and trustees of schools, academies and multi-academy trusts can be downloaded here.

The new Competency Framework provides a focus on the knowledge, skills and behaviours that everyone on a governing board needs as well as a framework to inform the way recruiting boards find and train new governors.

The updated Governance Handbook outlines the six key features of effective governance with oversight from the National Schools Commissioner, Sir David Carter, and input from a group of expert chairs.
